SouthernCrossAI Holdings Limited, also known as SouthernCrossAI or SCX, has officially launched as Australia's sovereign AI platform company. SCX's AI platform is designed to deliver high-throughput, low-latency AI inferencing, with a strong emphasis on onshore data residency and governance. This platform is tailored for enterprise, government, and the new generation of AI native software builders, offering a wide range of benefits. The company is also proud to present Project MAGPiE, Australia's first fine-tuned LLM.
Highlights
About us
SCX, established as Australia's sovereign AI platform company, uses specialised silicon with a comprehensive software and model operations layer. SCX is more than AI infrastructure. It is a full-stack AI service to help businesses, governments, and Australia's growing set of AI builders create the future.
Sovereign by Design
Sovereign by design, data, models, and workloads are hosted within Australia, adhering to compliance and security requirements across public and private sectors.
Commercial Readiness
Initial operations will kick off in New South Wales (NSW) by the end of 2025 using existing data centre facilities, followed by an aggressive expansion into South Australia in the first half of 2026, with plans to penetrate every state throughout 2026.
Product Portfolio
Our offerings include advanced token-based AI inferencing services, private fine-tuning, model hosting, and specialised solutions for regulated workloads across government and critical infrastructure.
Investment
The estimated investment for the first phase of the project of compute deployment stands at approximately A$30 million. Subsequent phases are anticipated to demand significantly larger investments as we scale operations and meet surging customer demand.
Sustainability
SCX's strategy is designed to produce the most energy efficient inferencing system in the market resulting in lower emissions and improved performance.
AI Models
SCX is creating fine tuned versions of open source models - starting with Project MAGPiE - tuned on Australian data to think like an Australian.
Strategy and Offering
Running in existing data centre locations, requiring no extensive new build out, SCX is building a robust, distributed infrastructure that prioritises cost efficiency ($/token) and energy effectiveness (kWh/token) rather than traditional data centre benchmarks. Our platform uniquely supports leading commercial and open-source foundational models, along with customer-specific fine-tunes, while ensuring workload isolation, stringent audit controls, and comprehensive version governance to comply with Australian regulations.
SCX's go-to-market
Enterprises will scale production AI with predictable unit economics and minimal latency.
Government and critical infrastructure sectors will benefit from onshore hosting and rigorous governance.
Research, education, and AI-native SaaS builders will benefit with high performance, fine-tuning and superior data control.
While SCX collaborates with top-tier silicon providers to enhance compute capabilities, we distinguish ourselves through our sovereign-first architecture, vertically integrated software stack, and Australia-specific models and services.
Project MAGPiE
SouthernCrossAI is introducing Project MAGPiE, an Australian-tuned model delivered via OpenAI-compatible APIs and engineered for low-latency, cost-efficient inference on SCX's sovereign platform. MAGPiE supports tools, retrieval-augmented generation and guardrails, with options for customer-owned fine-tuning hosted onshore.
SCX plans to expand the portfolio with industry-aligned variants including MAGPiE Legal (AU) and MAGPiE Medical (AU) targeted to commence rollout from late 2025, subject to evaluation and applicable regulatory guidance.
Trained on NVIDIA GB200 infrastructure and using modern data science techniques, MAGPiE is delivering a unique approach to AI for Australians. SCX is offering to work with other Australian providers to use MAGPiE on their infrastructure.
Customer Use Case
SCX is working with Australis Scientific, an Australian medical technology company focused on non-invasive solutions for urological health, to use the SCX platform to support the creation of AI in their system. Their flagship innovation is a wearable therapeutic device that delivers gentle, targeted nerve stimulation to help patients manage bladder control issues. SCX is working with Australis Scientific to provide access to dedicated, sovereign AI infrastructure and services, enabling both product development and patient engagement—all while ensuring 100% data residency within Australia.
"Working with SCX gives us the performance and security we need to scale our AI-powered healthcare platform here in Australia. Their infrastructure lets us keep all patient data onshore while giving our team the flexibility and compute power to develop advanced models safely and efficiently. It's helping us bring our next generation of non-invasive medical technology to market faster and with complete confidence in data privacy."

Rollout and Site Locations
NSW Node
Commissioning is actively underway, with a go-live target set for before the end of 2025.
South Australia Node
Targeted for deployment in the first half of 2026.
National Footprint
SCX is deploying into existing data centre facilities across Australian states throughout 2026, significantly enhancing resilience and minimising latency for our customers nationwide.
SCX's phased deployment strategy effectively balances immediate market entry with long-term positioning, starting with a facility in Sydney and strategically expanding into additional metropolitan areas and regions as demand dictates.
Investment
The initial deployment for the first phase is projected at approximately A$30 million (excluding facilities and power). Future implementations are set to scale as we establish additional nodes always with a focus on meeting customer demand. The funding structure, timeline, and amounts for subsequent phases will be determined by market conditions, supply chain availability, site access, grid capacity, and requisite approvals.
Sustainability
SCX is committed to pairing specialised silicon with efficient operations with a focus on new sites that have robust access to wind and solar power. Our objective is to consistently lower the energy intensity per AI token and proactively support our customers' decarbonisation goals.
Executive Commentary
Founder and CEO of SouthernCrossAI David Keane said:
"SouthernCrossAI is building the fastest, most efficient AI inference service in Australia, with systems that deliver real performance at lower cost and energy use taking advantage of existing infrastructure already in place in Australia. We believe that advanced AI doesn't have to rely on overseas cloud providers. It can be built, run, and scaled right here, faster, cheaper, and onshore."
About SCX
SCX is Australia's provider of sovereign AI infrastructure, delivering high-performance cloud solutions fully aligned with data security and privacy requirements. Its national network of ASIC-powered nodes enables government and enterprise clients to operate cutting-edge AI under complete domestic control.
